Joint Lokpal Bill panel failed to reach any agreement

In the seventh meeting, tensions between the Civil Society representatives and Government regarding Lokpal Bill has deepened on Wednesday, 15th June 2011. Now, they both will prepare their own separate drafts and will submit it to Cabinet till 30th of June 2011. They failed to reach to a consensus regarding the formation of Drafting committee and its working. Meetings will again be arranged on 20th and 21st June 2011. 



Suggestions of Civil Society:
  • Lokpal Committee comprising 11 members should be formed and it should have Complete Investigation System on all matters including corruption.Officers at lower posts should have the power to take decisions, investigation and to fix the punishment.
  • Lokpal should have right to opt for high level investigation against corrupt officers. There is no need of departmental inquiry and CBI Investigation. Government did not agreed on both of the demands. 
Kapil Sibbal said that, the drafts will be completed till 30th f June. It will have a single Cabinet Note which will comprise with the views of both Civil and Government sides. However, Anna said that, two separate drafts will be prepared and will be sent to Cabinet. Cabinet will take final decision on this issue.
