Heavy losses due to Bank Strike

Strike in Public sector banks yesterday leaded to great problems and heavy loses to economy. Common people faced great problem due to the strike. ATM's of may banks got emptied and checks of crores failed to get cleared. An estimated number of 10 Lakhs employees and Officers took part in the strike. Private banks also joined the strike along with 26 Public Sector Banks. 



This was a unique strike which was against the banking sector reforms instead of increase in their payments and perks. Many Private banks including ICICI, HDFC, Yes and Kotak Mahindra did not supported the strike. United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) called on this strike and has been supported by 4 unions of officers and 5 unions of employees. 

UFBU said that, they have given an optimum time to the Central Government to think about their demands but they did not took it seriously. Future prospects will be finalized in a meeting on 10th of August in Bangalore.

Demands of Bank Employees and Officers:-
  • Compassionate appointment
  • Appointments through BSRB only in Government Banks
  • A guideline of interest for employees
  • Five days working in bank
  • Time period of Officers should be fixed
  • Cancellation of recommendations of Khandelwaal committee
