Special Investigation Editor J Dey killed in Mumbai

J Dey, 56 Years old editor (special investigation) with Mid-Day newspaper has been killed barbarously on Saturday in Powai, Mumbai around 2:30 pm. The incident happened when Jyotirmoy Dey was riding a bike near D-Mart super store at Hiranandani Complex in Central Mumbai’s upmarket, Powai. Suddenly four men riding on two bikes fired 8 rounds at Dey from behind. Five of the bullets hit him and one went passed through his skull resulting into spot death. However, he was rushed to Hiranandani Hospital where he was declared dead.

According to Police, recently J Dey has published a series of news on Oil Mafia and later he was threatened to kill. However, State’s Home Minister RR Patil said that, he never made any complaints regarding threat to his life. 

Also Police reported that, CCTV footage near by the crime spot has been collected but forensic evidences which may be crucial cannot be gathered due to rain. However, the statements of two eye-witnesses have been recorded. 

J Dey has been working as a major reporter in many of the leading Newspapers including Indian Express and Hindustan Times and wrote extensively on Underworld from last two decades. He has been targeting the Mafia in his news articles and has been known as “Commander J” among Journalists of Mumbai.
